Eco-Friendly Family Reunion

Hiking in the rain

My family recently gathered to celebrate my sister’s 60th birthday. We came from all over, driving a Toyota Rav 4 hybrid, a Lexus RX plug-in hybrid, and the fully electric Hyundai Ioniq 6.

Our destination, a ‘castle’ in White Haven, PA, had 8 bedrooms, 9 bathrooms, (key for any get-together with my family) a pool, a hot tub and plenty of space for 17 of us, plus 3 dogs (all the cats stayed home).

Only 2 of the dogs and some of the people were willing to hike in the rain

The Hyundai IONIQ 6 SE RWD was an amazing choice for the long drive. With a range of almost 400 miles, we could drive roundtrip from Brooklyn without stopping to charge. Even better, with the outdoor outlets, we could plug in the car all weekend and power up more for the ride home. [My brother also plugged in his Lexus PHEV but only got 37 miles of electric range for the drive home].

Since we were traveling in May, we didn’t need to use the heated seats,(and we couldn’t use the castle’s pool) but we loved features like the pedestrian/cyclist alert when we were leaving NYC. New Yorkers cross in front of vehicles constantly, and the alert is a critical safety feature. Blind spot collision warning, rear cross traffic assist and rear occupant alert are also great family-friendly features.

The Ioniq 6 also looks great. The low roofline and rear spoiler help with aerodynamics, while giving the car a sporty look. And the retracting door handles give a sleek look while also improving the aerodynamics.

I took the Hyundai is the beach, and much of the drive followed a bike path I was quite appreciative of the cyclist alert.

All the rain turned the landscape green.

I drove in Eco mode most of the time, and felt the car handled well. There are also normal and sport modes, plus a snow mode.
